The artists Celine Daemen (*1995) and Laura Kuusk (*1982) don’t know each other. One of them was trained as a director at the institute of performative arts in Maastricht, the other studied visual art in Tallinn and Annecy. The two will come together during the festival, each with two of their pieces, for the first time in a ‘parcours’.
With INSIDE, Daemen will show an immersive installation for one audience member, which was created in 2018 as her graduation project in Maastricht and with THE OPERA OF THE FALLING, a mini-opera performed for the first time in 2019, which the audience experiences through VR-glasses. With a strong emphasis on musicality and atmosphere, Daemen creates worlds in which people are looking for something or someone to hold on to. The unconscious seems to be her starting point for a journey that includes disintegration, chaos, beauty, melancholy and hope.
In her work, Laura Kuusk investigates processes that make people behave in certain ways. Her starting points are the image, the spatial surrounding and the human body. For this, she regularly also works with performing artists such as Üüve-Lydia Toompere and Siim Tõniste
(s. supersocial). In DEAR ALGORITHM, she creates a confusing atmosphere in a modern suburban office building, while in SOCIAL BODY she also uses VR-glasses to whisk the audience away into a little study of everyday movements.
